Free Image Compressor
Shrink JPG, PNG and WebP images by quality or to a target size like 100 KB. Nothing is uploaded.
Common target sizes
- 20–50 KB: profile photos, thumbnails and some government or job-application upload forms.
- 100–200 KB: images in emails and most website content images.
- 300–500 KB: large hero images on websites.
Tips for smaller images
- Resize first: a photo wider than it will ever be displayed wastes most of its bytes. Set a max width (for example 1600 px).
- Quality between 70% and 80% usually looks the same as the original to the eye.
- Use WebP for websites; keep JPEG for places that don't accept WebP.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is compressed by your browser on your own device and is never uploaded to a server.
How do I compress an image to 100KB?
Choose "Target size", enter 100 KB, and pick JPEG or WebP. The tool finds the highest quality that fits, and reduces the dimensions only if quality alone is not enough.
JPEG or WebP: which should I choose?
WebP is usually smaller at the same visual quality and works in all modern browsers. Choose JPEG when the image must open everywhere, including older software and some upload forms.
Does compressing remove photo metadata?
Yes. Re-encoding drops EXIF metadata such as camera details and GPS location, which is good for privacy when you share photos.
Can I compress PNG files?
Yes. A PNG is converted to JPEG or WebP, which is far smaller for photos. For logos and graphics with transparency, choose WebP to keep the transparent background.
