Frequently asked questions
What must an Australian tax invoice include?
According to the ATO: the words "tax invoice", your business name and ABN, the date of issue, a brief description of what was sold with quantity and price, and the GST amount (or a statement that the total includes GST). For sales of $1,000 or more it must also show the buyer's identity or ABN.
Do I need to charge GST?
Only if you are registered for GST. Registration is required once your GST turnover reaches $75,000 a year ($150,000 for non-profits). If you are not registered, untick "GST registered": the document becomes an invoice rather than a tax invoice and no GST is added.
How do I save the invoice as a PDF?
Click "Download PDF" and choose "Save as PDF" in the print dialog. Only the invoice is printed, not the form.
Is my information stored?
Your details are saved in this browser only, so you can return and create the next invoice. Nothing is sent to our servers.
When must I give a customer a tax invoice?
If a customer asks for one, you must provide it within 28 days, unless the sale was $82.50 or less including GST.
