Frequently asked questions
What is military time?
Military time is the 24-hour clock written without a colon: the day runs from 0000 (midnight) to 2359 (11:59 PM). It avoids AM/PM mix-ups, which is why the military, hospitals, aviation and many countries use it.
How do I convert military time to regular time?
For 1300 and later, subtract 12 from the hours and add PM (1700 → 5:00 PM). For 0100 to 1159, keep the hours and add AM (0930 → 9:30 AM). 0000 is 12:00 AM (midnight) and 1200 is 12:00 PM (noon).
How do you say military time out loud?
Say the hours and minutes as numbers: 1430 is "fourteen thirty", 0800 is "zero eight hundred" (or "oh eight hundred"), and 2100 is "twenty-one hundred".
Is midnight 0000 or 2400?
Midnight at the start of a day is 0000. Some schedules write 2400 for midnight at the end of a day, but most systems use 0000 to avoid confusion.
