Frequently asked questions

What is a Unix timestamp?

A Unix timestamp (epoch time) is the number of seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, not counting leap seconds. It is the same everywhere in the world, which makes it a reliable way to store and compare times.

Seconds or milliseconds?

Unix time is usually in seconds (10 digits today). JavaScript and many APIs use milliseconds (13 digits). This converter detects which one you pasted.

How do I make a Discord timestamp?

Pick a date and time, then copy one of the Discord codes such as <t:1700000000:F>. Paste it into a Discord message and each reader sees the time in their own time zone and language.

What is the year 2038 problem?

Systems that store Unix time as a signed 32-bit number overflow on 19 January 2038 at 03:14:07 UTC. Modern systems use 64-bit time and are not affected.

Is my input sent anywhere?

No. All conversions run in your browser using your device's clock and time zone.
